Roseanna welcomes additional funding to tackle fuel poverty in Perth and Kinross

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire has welcomed an additional £9m being allocated to local authorities across Scotland which will make their homes warmer, more environmentally friendly and easier and cheaper to heat

The announcement from Housing Minister Margaret Burgess today means that Perth & Kinross is set to receive £1,921,947 from the Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland (HEEPS).

Ms Cunningham said:

"This is really welcome news and a further example of the Scottish Government stepping in to help the most hard-pressed in our society at a time when they are being abandoned and demonised by the coalition UK government in Westminster.

"Households across Perth and Kinross will benefit from home insulation measures, helping their homes stay warm and fuel efficient and saving them money for years to come, not just as a one-off benefit.

"Fuel poverty is an utter scandal in energy rich Scotland. As long as control over the key tools needed to tackle it such as fuel prices and the welfare system are retained at Westminster the fight against fuel poverty in Scotland is one that can not be properly fought."
