Roseanna Expresses Disapointment at DE Closure

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire has expressed her disappointment at the news that DE Shoes are to close all their remaining 26 stores, including the one in Crieff, making all staff redundant.

Speaking today (Wednesday) Ms Cunningham said:

"I am very disappointed to learn that a buyer has not been found for more than a handful of the shops in this troubled chain and that the staff at DE Shoes in Crieff are now facing redundancy. They are in my thoughts at this difficult time and I wish everyone affected success in securing alternative employment as speedily as possible.

"DE Shoes occupies premises from which the people of Crieff have been buying shoes for a hundred years so it really is the end of an era in that regard.

"The continued disappearance of well-known names from the High Street, not just in Crieff but across the country, is a real concern and evidence that the UK's economic woes are far from over and that the economic approach emanating from Downing Street and the Coalition Government is not working."
