Roseanna welcomes progress on Bridge of Earn Post Office

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, has today, (Tuesday), welcomed plans to reopen the Bridge of Earn Post Office in new premises.

The Post Office have launched a public consultation on the proposals, asking members of the public to give their opinions on the new branch, which is to be relocated to the Co-operative food store on the High Street in Bridge of Earn. The consultation will run from the 5th of March to the 18th of April.

The new location for the post office will be very close to the old one, with improved opening hours and access.

Speaking this afternoon, Ms Cunningham said:

"I am very pleased to see that Post Office services will soon be fully operational in Bridge of Earn again. This welcome development bucks the recent trend in Post Office closures and comes at a time where people will be relying even more on many of the services which the Post Office provides due to the impending welfare reforms."

"The proposals would mean that there would be seven day a week access to services which would be in a central location. At a time where many town and village centres are struggling, it is a positive step to see that services are being retained and improved for folk.

"Members of the public are welcome to take part in the consultation process and I would encourage people to do so.  Local people know best the sort of services that are needed in their area and their input into this process is vital."
