Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has welcomed the ruling today by the Supreme Court which should result in local businesses receiving insurance payment denied to them during the first lockdown.

Roseanna said:

“This is excellent news that I know will be welcomed by those businesses in my constituency who were victims of the insurance companies’ refusal to pay out on claims for loss of income during the first lockdown last spring.

“A number of local businesses contacted me at the time, expressing their anger that their insurers were not paying out on businesses interruption policies on what many felt were pretty spurious grounds.

“Small businesses, so important to our local economy, have been hit so hard by the need to literally shut up shop as we sought to restrict the spread of the coronavirus and having their insurance company refuse to pay out on their policies was like they were being kicked when they were already down.

“This judgement, therefore, really does represent a victory for common sense and I am hopeful that the re-examination of previously refused claims will see very important payments made to hard-pressed businesses in my constituency.”
