Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has commented following the First Minister’s statement to Parliament on COVID-19, during which she announced that Perth & Kinross is to move from Level 2 to Level 3 restrictions.

Ms Cunningham said:

“It will, of course, be extremely disappointing news for my constituents that Perth & Kinross is to be moved from Level 2 to Level 3 restrictions.  The stark fact is though that this area is on a sharply rising trajectory which must be halted and reversed.

“The most recent data shows that, in the space of a week, the 7-day number of cases per 100,000 of the population has increased in Perth & Kinross by 32% - that is very nearly a third.

“The advice from the Chief Medical Officer and National Clinical Director is that a move to Level 3 is necessary and that by taking this prompt action, we can hopefully prevent an even more serious deterioration in the situation.

“There is room for optimism since, if we look at Dundee, we can see that being placed in Level 3 has already resulted in the most recent data from there showing cases and test positivity declining.  While it is too soon to be sure that this will be sustained, the trend is positive at this stage.

“I have no doubt that individuals and businesses across my constituency will be anxious about this development and will want to see us turn this situation around.

“It is only by everyone continuing to stick to the guidelines and following the rules that we will achieve that.”
