Roseanna welcomes cash boost for local charities

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire has welcomed news that two organisations within her constituency have received awards totalling £3695 from Big Lottery Fund's 2014 Communities programme.

Ms Cunningham said:

"Well done to everybody involved at both Kinross Volleyball Club and Darnhall Tennis Club for securing this funding. I am sure that it will be put to very good use by both clubs.

"It is great to see local sports groups benefiting from the 2014 Communities fund which is designed to support and invest in grassroots sport around the country in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games."

NOTES: The details of the awards are as follows:

Kinross Volleyball Club received a £2000 award.

Kinross Volleyball Club provides lunchtime and after school volleyball clubs for females. It will use the grant to offer developmental coaching on a weeknight evening with a view to forming new female teams. This project meets the 2014 Communities outcome of 'More people volunteer in sport or physical activity'. This grant for £2000 will fund hall hire costs.

Darnhall Tennis Club received a £1695 award.

Darnhall Tennis Club will provide coaching sessions and purchase new equipment that will allow more people to join the club and participate in tennis. The project meets the 2014 Communities outcome of 'More people take part in sport and physical activity'. This grant for £1,695 will fund level 2 coaching course fee x1, 30 hours of LTA coach fees, portable courts scoreboards, beginners education panels and promotional leaflets.

2014 Communities is a micro grants programme, offering local sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, community councils and schools grants of £300 to £2,000 to support and stimulate grass roots involvement in sport and physical activity. In year two of the programme, Big Lottery Fund has £1 million to award in grants. 2014 Communities will continue to operate up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
2014 Communities is about building a legacy of well-being before and beyond the Commonwealth Games. The programme aims to encourage more people to take part or volunteer in sport or physical activity as well as encourage greater community cohesion in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
