Extended Visiting Hours for Ninewells Welcomed

The Scottish National Party has welcomed the news that NHS Tayside is one of five health boards to trial extended visiting hours  as part of Scottish Government plans to make the NHS more 'user-friendly' and will be asking NHS Tayside about the possibility of rolling out the scheme to other hospitals in Tayside.

Speaking this afternoon (Thursday) Ms Cunningham said:

"This visiting times pilot is a great first step towards making our NHS more 'user friendly' and giving patients what they want.

"By making visiting hours fit better with modern day working patterns, it will be easier for family and friends to visit patients, which in many cases will help to speed up recovery, as support from family and friends is a crucial part of the healing process.

“The increased flexibility in visiting times will also make it easier for patients receiving visitors from the parts of Tayside that are not so handy for Ninewells  in terms of either distance or availability of public transport.

“I understand that visitors to five wards in Ninewells Hospital will now be able to see patients during nine hours of each day, compared to the previous visiting times of 3pm to 8pm and that NHS Tayside hopes to extend the pilot to other areas within the hospital.

“I will be writing to NHS Tayside to ask what plans they have, assuming the pilot is successful to roll out the extended visiting hours to other hospitals across Tayside.”
