Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has commented on the results of the UK General Election as it impacts on her constituents.

Ms Cunningham said:

”On a local level, I am absolutely delighted by the stunning results in the two UK constituencies that cross over my own.

“Pete Wishart went into the election with a majority of just 21 and emerged victorious in Perth & North Perthshire by over seven and a half thousand votes.  He will now be joined in Westminster by John Nicolson, who put over ten per cent onto the SNP vote in Ochil & South Perthshire.

“Pete is, of course, the longest-serving Scottish MP and John has previous experience at Westminster, so they will both be hitting the ground running.  I am confident that my constituents’ interests within the UK parliament are in good hands.

“I do commiserate with Luke Graham, who was a hard-working MP for his constituents and I wish him well for the future.

“Scotland – and Perthshire South & Kinross-shire – voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union and, looking at the national picture, it could not be clearer that Scotland and the rest of the UK are on very different paths.  There is a clear democratic mandate for Scotland to have the right to decide for ourselves what our future should hold.”
