Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has welcomed the announcement that three projects in her constituency are to receive support from the Tay Cities Deal, now that the £3 million originally allocated to acquire the RM Condor Airfield is no longer needed for that purpose.

The two projects are £1.6 million to develop Aerospace Kinross as a year-round visitor attraction;  £1 million to establish the Crieff International Highland Centre  a world centre for highland sports, dance and music; and £100,000 to develop the heritage and cultural experience at Innerpeffray Library.

Ms Cunningham said:

“It's not usual for me – particularly the way things are at the moment – to welcome an announcement coming from the UK Government, but I am very pleased by this one.

“It is not, of course, new money but it is a new and welcome purpose for money that was already in the Tay Cities Deal pot.

“Innerpeffray Library is an absolute gem of a place, a real favourite of mine, so I am truly delighted to see it receiving this boost which will help enhance the experience for visitors to the library.

“Crieff is a natural choice for a national centre for highland sports, dance and music.  Since the days of the drovers, folk from across Scotland have converged on the town and the Crieff Highland Gathering is one of the most popular events on the Highland Games Circuit.

“Aerospace Kinross meanwhile is a fascinating and exciting project that shows that with a little imagination even the sky is not the limit for the potential of attracting visitors to Kinross-shire.

“Now, maybe if the UK Government were to come up with the missing £50 million to match the money put in by the Scottish Government – as was promised – even more worthwhile projects could get off the ground.”
