Roseanna's anger at Public Sector Pensions plans

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire has expressed her disappointment at the decision by the Labour Party to allow the Tory-led UK Government's Public Sector Pension plans to sail through the House of Commons during its final reading.

Ms Cunningham expressed particular dissatisfaction that Gordon Banks MP, who is supposed to represent the interests of those of Ms Cunningham's constituents who live in the Westminster constituency of Ochil & South Perthshire, was amongst those posted missing when the vote was called.

Ms Cunningham said:

"With the UK Government threatening to reduce the Scottish budget, Labour needs to explain to Scotland's public sector workers why they have not opposed these plans. Only last week in the Scottish Parliament, Labour claimed to have deep concerns over changes to public sector pensions but when they had the chance to actually stand up to the Tories instead of moaning about the SNP, they were found wanting.

"Gordon Banks MP needs to explain to those of my constituents that he is supposed to represent in the UK parliament why his party are all talk and no action when it comes to public sector pensions. Once again Labour have abandoned the people they are supposed to represent.

"I am very angry that my constituents have been let down in this way. Particularly since Mr Banks was in Parliament to vote for his own party's amendments, I can't understand why he and so many of his colleagues chose to slope off early and not vote against these damaging proposals."

"Instead of uniting against these punitive reforms, Labour sat idle and let the Tories off the hook whilst betraying public sector workers. The SNP will continue to ensure that the voice of ordinary public sector workers is heard in the UK Parliament."
