Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has commented on the imminent closure of the Bridge of Earn GP surgery.

She said:

“There is no doubt whatsoever that there have been significant issues about suitable premises and there have been difficulties in the past recruiting permanent – or even locum – staff to the Bridge of Earn practice.  Those difficulties need to be addressed as we look to secure a long-term future for primary care in Bridge of Earn, but I am particularly concerned about two specific and immediate issues.

“First of all, there appears to have been a decision not to advertise for a salaried doctor as had previously been understood to be the arrangement.

“Secondly, that apparent change of direction has resulted in very short periods of notice – only eight working days – for the staff of the practice and a scramble to place patients on other GPs’ lists in time, with a consequent impact on the workloads at those surgeries.

“There also seems to have been something of a breakdown in communication between NHS Tayside, P&KHSCP and the practice partners.

“I am in the process of setting up a meeting with Jim Devine, Primary Care Manager at Perth and Kinross Health & Social Care Partnership, and these matters will be at the very top of my agenda.”
