Commenting on the news that the Bridge of Earn GP Surgery is to close on 30 August 2019, Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP said: “I know that the imminent closure of the Bridge of Earn Surgery is the source of very understandable concern amongst my constituents.  The immediate priority for most is to know where they are to turn for medical assistance once their local GP surgery has closed."

“In that regard, I am pleased to have been informed that, by Monday 2 September, all patients will have been assigned a new GP and I understand that letters are going out to patients providing them with the information they need.

“This does not, of course, address the fact that the community of the Bridge of Earn will be without a GP surgery. That is not a situation that I find acceptable on a long term basis.

“I know that the practice had struggled for some time to recruit full-time GPs and that attempts have been made by Perth & Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS Tayside to find a way of continuing to deliver services in the area but that they have, sadly, been unsuccessful.

“I do not want to see Bridge of Earn left without a GP and I would urge P&KHSCP and NHS Tayside to continue to seek a permanent solution that will be acceptable to the community. I have also been in touch with Jeanne Freeman, Cabinet Secretary for Health, to ensure that she is fully aware of the situation and asking that she give it her urgent attention.”
