Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has expressed her disappointment and concern at reports of fire raising at two schools in her constituency over the past few days.

She said:

”I was very concerned to learn that firefighters have been called to fires at both Oakbank and Viewlands primary schools over the last few days and I am particularly disappointed that these callouts appear to be the result of deliberate fire raising.

“I have asked Perth & Kinross Council to provide me with an update on the extent of the damage at both schools and what steps are being taken as a result to both improve security at local schools and assess how the potential for fire raising in school grounds can be minimised.

“I am also contacting local police to ask about their response and whether patrols around schools can be increased.

“Thank goodness, these fires have resulted in limited damage and no harm to individuals. We have been lucky so far, but what starts off as just mucking about can so quickly and easily turn to tragedy.

“With situations like this there is always the danger of copycat actions and I would ask everyone, particularly those who live near schools, to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.”
