Local Politicians Welcome Accelerated Flood Protection Scheme

The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, and Ms Annabelle Ewing MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Mid Scotland & Fife, have welcomed the decision by Perth & Kinross Council to accelerate proposals put forward by engineers for a £1m flood mitigation scheme for Comrie.

Speaking this afternoon (Thursday) Ms Cunningham, Comrie’s constituency MSP, said:

“This is very good news indeed and I welcome this prompt action from the Council.

“I understand that a report submitted to the council on Tuesday, recommends raising Camp Road and building a small wall closer to the river as well as removing any fallen trees from the river, and clearing the gravel bar at the bend in the Water of Ruchill, where it burst its banks.”

Ms Ewing, a Comrie resident, added:

“With flood warnings still in place, anxiety levels in Comrie remain very high indeed.  I know that this promise of accelerated activity will be very welcome.

“As folk start the work of cleaning up the homes and businesses that have been damaged by the flood waters this is exactly the sort of reassurance that people have been crying out for.”
