Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has welcomed the announcement that a £4 million self-build loan fund for people who want to build their own homes is now open for applications.

Ms Cunningham said:

“Particularly in rural areas, starting a self-build project can be the best way of getting the home that suits you and your family, in the place that you want.  However, problems in securing finance and the right advice can be a serious barrier for many people.

“I am delighted, therefore, to be able to welcome the news from the Scottish Government that a £4 million loan fund for self-build projects is now open for applications.

“The fund has been launched following a successful pilot scheme in the Highlands and will be administered by the Highland Small Communities Housing Trust but it is important to stress that this fund is not restricted to the Highlands and it is not just for homes in the countryside.

“Loans are available for eligible urban or rural self-builders all over Scotland who find that they are unable to access standard bank lending to support their project, up to a maximum of £175,000.

“This news will be cheered by people around Scotland and I am sure that there will be many within my constituency who will be excited at the prospect of accessing this fund and opening the door to a new housing future.”
