Commenting on a report on changes to the school estate affecting a number of schools in Perth and Kinross which will be considered at the next meeting of the Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee on Wednesday 21 March 2018, Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP expressed concern at the potential closure of schools in her constituency.

Ms Cunningham said:

“What we are seeing from the Conservative-led administration on Perth & Kinross Council are cuts upon cuts.

”Condition of the buildings and catchment area demographics might be used as justification, but the bottom line is that a local school is an important resource for the whole wider community.  It can act as a magnet for attracting families to the area and without a school a village can go into decline.

“This will be a very worrying time for pupils and parents of the affected schools and if the communities affected by these plans intend opposing the school closures then they will have my full support.”
