Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has welcomed a communication received from Scottish Water indicating that they have decided that the proposed site investigations on the A823, which would have involved the closure of the road for about a week, will not now go ahead next week as recently indicated to local residents.

Ms Cunningham said:

“Over the course of the weekend I was contacted by a number of constituents extremely concerned about a communication they had received from Scottish Water indicating that the A823 was to be closed for about a week between the Castlehill reservoir and the Glendevon Water Treatment Works.

“The position of the planned road closure would have caused major disruption to the daily lives of the constituents who contacted me.  The short notice offered by Scottish Water and the extremely poor levels of interaction with the community shown by them were entirely unacceptable.

“I raised these and other concerns with Scottish Water and I was pleased to receive, last night, notification that the works will not go ahead as originally planned and an apology for the concern that has been caused to my constituents.

“Over and above that, they are now in the process of organising an information event for local residents about the work that is needed and hope that it will be possible to identify a more acceptable way forward.

“It may very well be that closure of the road is unavoidable in order to complete the necessary work safely, but hopefully now, with a bit of time and communication, ways can be found to minimise the impact on those who would be most disrupted.”
