Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has slammed a Tory plan to cut school crossing patrols in Perth & Kinross, describing it as a “ludicrous and dangerous proposal”.

Ms Cunningham said:

“The plan put forward by the Tory administration of Perth & Kinross Council to cut back on school crossing patrols is a ludicrous and dangerous proposal.

“We all know that times are tight in terms of public finances.  The Tory Government Westminster  has imposed a real-terms cut in the Scottish Government’s day-to-day budget next year of more than £200 million, and more than £500 million over the next two years.

“There is no way that can’t have an impact on funding for local Councils but still the Scottish Government have been able to find more than £4 million extra for Perth & Kinross Council than originally announced.

“A bit more imagination and compassion needs to be shown by this Tory Council and they need to lay off the lollipop patrols.”
