Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has been sworn in as the Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire.

Speaking about the occasion, Ms Cunningham said:

“It is very nearly twenty one years since I was first elected as a representative of constituents in Perthshire and Kinross-shire and every time I go through the process of signing in I am very conscious that it is the people of my constituency who have charged me with the responsibility of being their representative in Parliament and that is an obligation that I take very seriously.

“As Nicola Sturgeon said in her comments on behalf of all the SNP MPs, the Scottish National Party pledges its loyalty to the people of Scotland, in line with the Scottish constitutional tradition of the sovereignty of the people.

“I will, at all times, seek to serve my constituents - regardless of who they voted for - to the very best of my ability.”

Ms Cunningham as she made her solemn affirmation as Member of the Scottish Parliament

for the constituency of Perthshire South & Kinross-shire.

All the Scottish National Party’s 63 MSPs wore the white rose of Scotland, made famous by Hugh MacDiarmid in his poem “The Little White Rose”. The rose has been worn by SNP members as they are sworn in at Holyrood since the Scottish Parliament was reconvened in 1999.

"The Little White Rose" by Hugh MacDiarmid:

The rose of all the world is not for me.
I want for my part
Only the little white rose of Scotland
That smells sharp and sweet – and breaks the heart.
