The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham, SNP candidate for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, has welcomed plans by the Abercairney Estate to provide outdoor locations for Scotland’s first purpose-built film studio.

 Ms Cunningham said:

“I was pleased to see the coverage in the national press at the weekend of plans for Abercairney Estate to link up with Pentland Studios to provide outdoor locations for films being produced at Scotland’s first purpose-built film studio.

“I met with Jim O’Donnell of Pentland Studios and Daniel Moray from Abercairney recently and this exciting proposal really does hold out the prospect of being a very interesting development indeed.

“As well as the jobs that could be generated directly, film location tourism is a growing and important sector with people wanting to visit the areas where the films they love were shot.  Others are simply inspired to visit an area having been captivated by views of it on the big screen.

“Indeed, readers of American newspaper USA TODAY and travel website 10Best voted Scotland as the top destination for film fans.

“There are, of course, quite a number of issues that will have to be addressed along the way but if this proposal can come to fruition it would be excellent news for Strathearn."
