Roseanna Cunningham MSP recently visited Letham Sports Club and met with some of the club’ representatives with whom she discussed their long term aspirations for developing youth football in the area and what they are offering to the local community.

Speaking after the visit, Ms Cunningham said:

“Letham Sports Club has been active in the local area since 1960 and has played an extremely important role within the community over the years, growing to the point where it is now one of the biggest clubs in the east of Scotland, with 23 teams for different age groups and for both boys and girls.

“Recent developments include the establishment of a pan-disability team which has proved very popular and is continuing to grow.

“Letham Sports Club is a fantastic example of a volunteer led local group and administrators and coaches who give so freely of their time and effort are due a massive vote of thanks for everything they do.

“That effort is not just channelled into keeping the club running and coaching the teams, a seven year campaign of fundraising, planning and local engagement reached its successful conclusion in September last year with the opening of a brand new 3G pitch at Seven Acres Park.

“The next step for this ambitious club with big plans for the future is the much needed improvement of their clubhouse facilities.

“At present their main club room is a Portakabin and a shipping container serves as a changing room.

“Proper changing facilities and a proper club space would be a massive boost to the club and the wider community.  I look forward to seeing the plans for this further venture take shape and I will be happy to do what I can to lend my support to their desire to move on to the next important phase of the club’s development.”
