"Outstanding candidate" for Ochil & South Perthshire

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, and Ms Annabelle Ewing MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament representing Mid Scotland & Fife - who both live within the constituency - have welcomed the selection of Ms Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh as the SNP's candidate for the Westminster seat of Ochil & South Perthshire.

Speaking today (Thursday) Ms Cunningham said:

"I am delighted that Tasmina has been selected as the SNP candidate for Ochil & South Perthshire. Tasmina will be an outstanding candidate as she showed during the European elections and the referendum campaign.

"I am looking forward to campaigning alongside Tasmina to secure for my constituents in Strathearn, Strathallan and Kinross-shire a Westminster representative who will stand up for them and not abstain - or, worse, vote with the Tories - on important issues like austerity, Trident and fracking as the present incumbent has done.

"My commiserations and thanks to the other candidates, too. Any one of them would have been an excellent candidate and we really were spoiled for choice.

Ms Ewing continued:

"Congratulations to Tasmina in securing the SNP nomination for Ochil & South Perthshire from what was a large and very talented field of potential candidates.

"I have absolutely no doubt that Tasmina will be a great candidate and a real champion for the people of this constituency.

"Tasmina has breadth of experience and talents and with less than a hundred days to go until the General Election, I am confident that those talents will be recognised by the voters."
