Roseanna Welcomes Great Progress on Strathearn Artspace

ROSEANNA WELCOMES GREAT PROGRESS ON STRATHEARN ARTSPACE

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, is delighted to learn that the Strathearn Artspace project has secured a rental agreement for the old library. Speaking following a meeting with David Campbell and Tom Barron this afternoon, Ms Cunningham said:

"This is great news. The project is a fantastic concept but the major stumbling block it faced was securing an appropriate space.

"There has been a lot of work put into getting matters to this stage including political support from across the board so I am delighted to be able to congratulate David and Tom on being able to take this huge step forward to seeing the Strathearn Artspace become a reality.

"The plans to turn the old library into a multi-purpose, self-sustaining arts centre that will accommodate cinema, theatre, music and comedy performances, visual art workshops, art exhibitions, conference and meeting facilities and much more are really exciting.

"David, the Project Leader, tells me that they plan to spend a year fundraising for internal design work but the building won't be lying idle in that time. Even before any revamp, the people of Crieff can look forward to events taking place in the space as it is at the moment, kicking off with a photography exhibition almost as soon as they get the keys in September.

"The Strathearn Artspace will provide opportunities to young and old alike across the artistic spectrum and it is great that a modern use has been found which will bring the old Library back into community-centred use."

David Campbell added:

"Everyone involved with the project is really excited to be in a position to start making definite plans for the development of the Strathearn Artspace and we are really looking forward to getting our hands on the keys in September.

"We are grateful to everybody in Crieff, including Roseanna and other politicians, for all the support they have given to the concept and I can't wait to begin turning dreams into reality."
