Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has expressed her dismay and anger at news that an award-winning bird hide on the shores at Loch Leven National Nature Reserve has been destroyed in a fire that is thought to have been started deliberately.
The Mill Hide has been completely gutted in the blaze, which took place between 7-8pm on Thursday, February 18th. Built in 2011, it had won awards for its architectural design.
Ms Cunningham said:
“This news is shocking. I really am dismayed and angry that this popular and award-winning structure should have been destroyed, seemingly through a deliberate act.
“I echo the calls that have been made by Police Scotland and urge anyone with any information about the cause of the fire to get in touch with them.
“The mythical phoenix may not be amongst the many bird species to be seen at Loch Leven but hopefully the Mill Hide can rise again from the ashes and once again provide cover for those looking to enjoy the reserve’s natural beauty and sheltered views of the loch and its feathered residents.”
