Roseanna Comments on Radioactive Material

The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire has received notification from the Ministry of Defence to the effect that the Ministry of Defence is shortly due to commence site remediation works at what was formerly the MoD’s DARA (Defence Aviation Repair Agency) establishment at Almondbank and is now owned and operated by Vector Aerospace.

Ms Cunningham said:

“I am pleased that the Ministry of Defence is accepting responsibility for cleaning up the mess they have made over the years as while the material involved may be regarded as low risk it is absolutely right that it should be disposed of carefully and that any material with a significant level of radiation will be safely stored and monitored rather than simply being dumped as happened in the past.

“I hope that local residents and the workforce at Almondbank will be reassured by the information that has been provided and the plans that are in place to deal with this material.

“If anyone has any concerns that are not addressed by the information provided or believe that the work is not being carried out as outlined they should not hesitate in getting in touch with me.”
