ROSEANNA HIGHLIGHTS OPPOSES PLANNED BUS SERVICE CHANGES – URGES USERS TO ENGAGE WITH CONSULTATION

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP is highlighting a consultation into bus service changes being proposed by Stagecoach and is encouraging constituents to engage with the process and make sure the views of those who use the affected services are heard and taken on board.

Ms Cunningham said:

“Stagecoach have launched a consultation on proposed plans affecting bus services in my constituency.

“The consultation is period is very short and, with its timing coinciding with the Christmas period, I am concerned that the views of users of these services will not be properly taken on board.

“I urge anyone who will be affected – positively or negatively – by the planned changes to make sure that their voice is heard.

“The consultation period began on Wednesday 18th December and runs until Friday 3rd January with the changes scheduled to come into force from Monday 24 February.

“Those changes which will be of particular interest to my constituents include withdrawing the 14A between Perth and Pitcairngreen, and slashing journeys on the 15 route serving St Fillans while dropping the service between Perth and Crieff back to an hourly service.

“These proposals are really bad news for my constituents outside Perth. We are seeing the argument of a lower than hoped for increase in passenger numbers being used to back the reversal of previous changes which had increased the frequency of buses, but I really don’t think those changes have been given enough time to properly bed in.

“I strongly urge those who do, or would, use those services that are under threat to make their case to Stagecoach.  And I urge  Stagecoach to heed those voices and to extend their consultation period because to announce a consultation on changes to services at this time of year comes across as being beyond cynical.”
