MORE DETAILS ON FUTURE FOR COMRIE RBS BRANCH

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP has highlighted further information she has received from RBS following the announced reprieve for the Comrie branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Ms Cunningham said:

“Further to the welcome announcement that the Comrie branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland will not now close as previously indicated, I have received further details from RBS regarding their plans for the branch and the bank’s future presence in the village.

“The branch will be kept open until at least the end of 2018, during which period they will monitor the level of transactions and new income.  If there is what RBS describe as ‘a sustained and viable increase’ in both, then they will make a final decision on the future of the branch as part of a full independent review.

“In the interest of transparency, I will be asking RBS to detail more precisely what they mean by that phrase and how it will be measured.

“While I sincerely hope that the branch in Comrie will be retained beyond the end of this year it is interesting to note an additional commitment that RBS have made should a branch close.

“If RBS own the building in which the branch was housed and where there is no demand for it, they will work with development trusts and local communities to transfer ownership to a community for free if there is a viable and deliverable three-year business case.

“They also state that they will donate all suitable branch furniture and other suitable equipment to local organisations.

“There are a number of caveats attached to all of that and I repeat that I do not want us getting to that stage in relation to Comrie, but it does signal an improved appreciation on the part of RBS that they need to improve the way they work alongside the communities that have provided their customer base for so many years.”
