Roseanna pursues concerns over Comrie Flooding

The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, has written to Perth & Kinross Council, Tayside Police and Tayside Fire & Rescue following up community concerns about the recent flooding experienced in Comrie.

Ms Cunningham said:

“I spent the morning of Tuesday 28 August in Comrie, speaking to local people affected by the flooding and observing the cleanup process in action.

“The extent of the flooding and the damage caused to property was shocking but I was hugely impressed by the way in which the local community came together helping each other out in such a selfless manner.

“It was truly heartening to see such a strong sense of community spirit in action.

“Now, however, we need to take a good look at both the causes of and responses to the flooding and learn some lessons from the experience.

“I know that the Community Council has raised a number of concerns and I have written to the various public bodies who responded to the situation asking for their comments.

“I understand from the Council that erosion of the banks of the Ruchill Water has been an issue but that they have been experiencing difficulty in gaining access to carry out the required repairs.  I would strongly urge any landowners involved to co-operate fully with the Council in this endeavour as we all need to work together to prevent this happening again.”
