PERTH & KINROSS SCHOOL LEAVERS HEADING FOR POSITIVE DESTINATIONS

The latest figures released by the Scottish Government have shown that school leavers across Perth & Kinross are going on to positive destinations in greater numbers than previously.   In 2015-16, 95% of pupils went on to positive destinations after leaving school in Perth & Kinross – an increase of 2.9% in the past year.

The SNP Government has made education its number one priority in this parliament and is committed to improving education standards in our schools and giving our young people the best opportunities in life.

Commenting, Ms Cunningham said:

"The Scottish Government is committed to continually improving standards in our schools and ensuring that young people have opportunities to go on to work, education or training and make the best start in adult life.

"Our schools across Perth & Kinross are benefitting from this commitment from the Scottish Government and are making excellent progress in helping our young people have the best chances in life.  Additional spending in the budget and the funding to close the attainment gap will go further still towards helping more young people from Perth & Kinross find positive destinations after leaving school.

"I’m delighted to see 95% of school leavers in Perth & Kinross now going on to positive destinations such as employment, training, university or college after leaving school.  After four years steadily around the 92-93% mark - itself a high percentage - this year's figures represent a step change and  show the continued progress the Scottish Government is making to give young people across Perth & Kinross the best start in life.

"Congratulations are also due to Perth & Kinross Council and all of the hard work put in by teachers, parents and, above all, the young people themselves."
