Roseanna Gives Backing to Pub Month

The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, has given her backing to Scottish Pub Month, a campaign designed to support local pubs.  Speaking today (Friday) Ms Cunningham said:

“The Scottish pub trade’s magazine DRAM, supported by the Scottish Licensed Trade Association and a range of Brewers and Distillers is running a month long campaign throughout September aimed at persuading people to support their local pub.

“Like so many other types of business, pubs have been hit by the wider economic difficulties and I am pleased to be able to give my backing to this campaign.

“A good pub can be a really important part of a community and as the licensed trade are, rightly, keen to point out, many of Scotland’s pubs, restaurants and hotels provide top quality food and drink in a wonderful atmosphere.

“It is interesting to note that by increasing the number of folk going through the door of our pubs by just 5 per cent during the month of September could add as much as £10 million to the Scottish economy.

“While reminding folk of the importance of responsible drinking and the dangers of drink driving, I hope that Scottish Pub month will be a huge success and that Perthshire publicans will have their tills ringing throughout September.”
