PERTH & KINROSS BUDGET: THE "RIGHT PACKAGE"

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Perthshire South & Kinross-shire constituency, has described the budget proposed by the SNP administration group of Perth & Kinross Council as being the “right package” and a “budget which works for this area”.

She said:

“Budget setting is always a challenge for any administration.  Weighing up the wide-ranging needs and demands of the community against the finances available is a balancing act at the best of times and the continuing constraint on public finances imposed by the UK Tory Government makes it harder still.  An austerity agenda does not make for easy decision making.

“Within those limitations, however, I think that the SNP administration on Perth & Kinross Council have to be congratulated for coming forward with a budget which works for this area.

“£350,000 for Economic Development will help achieve the objective of growing tourism and promoting the Perth & Kinross council area as a leading events destination.

“£240,000 for Additional Teachers and £50,000 to the Active Under 10s pilot programme indicates a commitment to local young people and I am very pleased to see £125,000 earmarked for Community Empowerment.

“Rural communities will also be supported through £50,000 to develop community-led transport scheme pilots, one of which I understand is to be in Auchterarder, and the £20,000 that is being made available to expand Growbiz and its ability to assist micro-business startups.

“I am sure that many small businesses will also be amongst those who will welcome the news that the 15-minute Free Parking Initiative is to be extended to all street parking across PKC.

“I am also very pleased to see that £1,621,000 has been earmarked for investment in Road Safety.

“Environmental issues are a hugely important contributor to making Perth & Kinross such a wonderful place to live, work and do business.  That has been recognised with £362,000 for Community Greenspace infrastructure – with a further extra £600,000 coming from the new Scottish Government Capital allocation – on top of £50,000 to create a fund to support community regeneration & improvement work at Perth Lade as well as £20,000 in support for local Bloom Groups and £25,000 for additional Dog Fouling patrols.

“All in all, this is a budget which delivers the right package for individuals, families, communities and businesses across Perth & Kinross.”
