RAIL ELECTRIFICATION PROGRAMME SET TO START
Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, has highlighted train timetable changes which will affect services used by her constituents.
Pointing out that while the service alterations might bring short-term inconvenience, they are a necessary consequence of work being done which will be of long-term benefit, Ms Cunningham said:
“I have been informed by Scotrail that work on the electrification which will transform Scotland’s railways is scheduled to begin shortly. The work is scheduled to run from Sunday 4 September until Thursday 31 March with a break for the festive period.
“Once completed, this project – part of the Scottish Government's network-wide enhancement programme – will allow train companies to run faster, longer, greener trains and cut journey times while increasing the number of seats available.
“While the work is ongoing, however, there will, of course, be some disruption and rail passengers should make themselves aware of the service changes which will see some temporary timetable restrictions and bus replacement services introduced.”
